Liang Zhou Ling · So It Is Said

A path through a thousand mountains, desolate; grieving at heart for the people's long-gathered weakness. Year after year, age after age, the road is the same, and yet once, hair bound up, I chased the fires of war.
Rising, astride the horse, upright as a lance; half a lifetime a stranger away from home. Taking my charge from heaven and earth, I lift my head and see the bamboo waves raging.
Glosses—
Lance [shuo]: a long spear.
