Jiang Yue Huang Chong Shan · Crape Myrtle

Jiang Yue Huang Chong Shan · Crape Myrtle · Illustration

Wind and moon have nothing to do with refined amusement; no need for the floating clouds of fame and gain. Far hills, a thin haze holding up the white wheel. The flowers' scent comes early; bright beauty lets the spirit slacken.

The waterfall's clear note breaks off and resumes; before the rock I cup my hands and drink the sweet and pure. Body light, I rise and ride to the wood of happiness. Gathering the blue and purple—once gone far, it is no longer now.

Glosses—

Hold up [ye]: by extension, to support, to prop;
No need [buxiao]: not required, not necessary;
Blue and purple: to pursue wealth and rank through learning, to win high office and station.
