Kan Hua Hui · A Dream Inside the Dream

Under the tree the white ants gather up the light of the years; the flower's tears are flustered. This body ought to have been a wanderer at ease, and yet it stops its words, fallen away into a thousand frosts. The cloud-heights go off with the migrant birds; half a cup, and then waste and ruin.
Brows and eyes can still carry a dimpled smile spreading wide; a painting in bright colors, treasured away. The dream runs after the hollow world and the dusty heart breaks off; for two or three coins, I see straight through the innermost heart. I entrust it all to this morning's warmed wine and the clean fragrance of green plums.
Glosses—
white ants (pífú): another name for the termite;
a thousand frosts: a thousand years; a way of describing a long stretch of time;
painting in bright colors (yǎn huà): a picture in vivid, brilliant color.
