· Seeking Delight

In twos and threes, the snowmelt soaks out across the open waste. A low lamp, indulgent, keeps light sleep safe from care; going or staying, the first chill of spring has just come down. Half awake, I weave a world of spirit that flows on; our eyes meet, and my heart burns.
Incense ash piles and curls, threads of wind whisper, and the fluttering slips across a slender palm. The stirs and stirs up feeling; in the gentle warmth the bright moonlit evening blurs into a daze. Year after year I know you will be here beside me, and the constant longing is laid to rest.
Glosses—
soaks (yīn): water spreading out and seeping through;
fluttering (zhǎn fú): to flutter and drift; to brush and stir;
bright moonlit evening (lǎng xī): a clear night with a bright moon.
