Liang Zhou Ling · So It Is Said · Illustration

My way runs through a thousand lonely mountains; I grieve for the common people, so long worn down. Year after year the road is the same—and yet once, , I chased the fires of war.

I rise and mount, straight as a lance; for half my life a wanderer far from home. Spurred on by heaven and earth, I lift my head and see the bamboo churning like a fierce sea.

Glosses—

Lance [shuò]: a long spear.
