· The Bride

Candlelight flickers red. She pencils her dark brows, brushes the apricot cheek, pins up her hair with jade. Reed pipes play the fleeting years into the distance; hands joined, she hides the scented tear-stains.
The curtain stirs, its ablaze with color; the hangs low, and over the they linger, entwined. One night, one lifetime—how glad, that the bond is tied, a love that holds and will never be traded.
Glosses—
Apricot cheek: describes a woman's beautiful face, white with red showing through;
Scented tear-stains: tear-tracks carrying the fragrant powder;
Qiǎn quǎn: 1. firmly tied; not coming apart. 2. deep in affection.
