The Pause Button

The Pause Button · Illustration

Washed my hair.Rain fell.Fresh, clean, mingling withperfume carrying the scent of snowy mountains—and so, washed clean.

Gravity pulls downward. The raindrops follow. On the car window, traces of timemarkthe course of the story, what we are destined to keep and let go.

Our meeting,scattered memories,never pieced together into a page.Acting out the false within the real.And then… the weight…

The leavesare slowly turning yellow. The migratory birdsare about to migrate.Peoplegather, then drift apart again.

Pause.Stay a little while.A little while of unease.Try hard to wipe it away.Try harder still to remember.A heartbeat speaks of being alive—this.
