Where Am I

Where Am I · Illustration

The same streetsthe same flow of people

I no longer want to walk themnor want to waitnor care to linger

Those selves that were torn apart, please piece yourselves together slowly, don't startle the sound of the wind, don't wake the daylight either

Let me take my leaveof that damned little longing for too much, let me fold the long nightinto one leaf of a homebound boat, and give the self that kept sinkingback to whatever comes after dawn

No more asking who owed whomno more finding a pretext for regretwhen the wind passes throughI let go of my name

So those places that split openwere never scars, only exits I grew for the time beingin order to stay alive

If someone asks where I amI probably will not saythat I have been saved

I am only living quietly, like wind crossing a hill, like moonlight spreading over a sandbar, watching clouds come and go,listening to the slow long years

I have learned to keep my own companyand learnedto accept it all

Farther offthere is another mestanding outside the road I came bylong since gone wandering
